Restore & Rebalance

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a gentle non-invasive therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. Reflexologists see the feet as mini maps of the body and apply specific thumb or finger pressure to points on these maps – these points are called ‘reflexes’ as they reflect all organs and glands in the body. Reflexology is a ‘holistic’ therapy derived from the greek word ‘holos’ meaning ‘whole’ and it dates back to Ancient Egyptians, Chinese and Native Americans. In the 1890s it was introduced into Western culture. Most modern practitioners have followed the work of Eunice Ingham a physiotherapist from South Dakota who worked alongside Drs Riley, Bowers and Fitzgerald ( the latter an ENT surgeon) in the 1930s to develop findings on Zone Therapy where it was discovered application of pressure on zones of the feet had an analgesic effect. Eunice Ingham went on to create a foot chart that is widely used to this day. Reflexologists have also been trained in Hand Reflexology and some have had further training in Facial and/or Ear Reflexology and have corresponding charts.

Who I am

About Me

From an early age, I knew I wanted to work in a vocational and caring field, so in 1989, I followed my Mum’s footsteps and commenced training to become a Registered Nurse. After qualifying in 1993, I went on to work in various clinical settings in both Belfast and London Hospitals and traveled extensively with my work- from a Romanian Orphanage to Cruise ships to Aviation Medicine and then found myself back in Ireland in 2003.
